Effective Contraception

There are many safe and effective contraceptives that couples can use in order to avoid pregnancy.  The definition of contraception is the prevention of fertilization of an egg by a sperm (conception) or attachment of the fertilized egg to the lining of the uterus (implantation).  There are several methods that couples can use, some methods are more reliable then others.  The most important part to effective contraception is how well directions are followed.  Some forms of birth control are more difficult to follow then others, so it is important that you understand them before making a decision on the type of contraceptive to use.

There are two forms of effective contraceptives.  The first is called typical use, which is often inconsistent.  Oral contraceptives are very effective with perfect use, but it is up to the woman to make sure to take all her doses.  If the directions are not followed then there is a chance that the woman may become pregnant.  The average use of oral contraceptives is much less effective, since it requires the woman to keep track of her doses.

The other form of contraceptives is called the perfect use.  The perfect use contraceptives are much more effective, since it doesn’t require the woman to continue to follow instructions.  Contraceptive implants are an example of effective contraception.  Once inserted, it does not require any additional work until it needs to be replaced.
